Interschool Team: We have two Interschool Riding Teams that compete
with teams from other barns throughout Virginia. Students have the opportunity to try out for the team each year.
The American Interschool Competition is an unique opportunity for
junior riders to participate as a team
in a sport that almost entirely
focuses on individual competition. It is held during the showing 'off
season'
from November to early March. Area riding schools forms team of 8
riders with additional alternates that travel around
to meets hosted by
the different schools.
The meets focus on equitation and the challenge is to compete on
horses
that the rider has often never seen or ridden before. Only a few
minutes are allowed for the rider to 'test
out' the horse before the judging
begins. Often riders must ride a different horse in each class and
since
horses are used more than once their results are compared to the
results that a different rider might get from the same
horse.
Points are awarded along with ribbons and the team with the most points
is the winner. A running total
is kept throughout the season and in
March all teams meet at a grand finale show where the championship is
decided.
